Why Have A Background On Twitter?

DecorateTwitter 05 Feb, 2009 twitter 2 Comments

You may be on our site downloading out themes, or you may be on our site thinking ‘why on earth should I use a different background… what’s wrong with the default Twitter background?’

Well, the main problem is that if you use a default Twitter background it is used by hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of other people, meaning that you have no identity at all. Using a theme that not many other people use is a great way of getting yourself known on Twitter, as people will remember you because of your design. Once you’ve passed this stage you’re bound to get loads of followers and be able to use Twitter to it’s maximum potential.

If that’s not enough for you, then how about this: it looks better! We’re happy to design any type of Twitter background for free, so if you have a great idea just contact us and you could start a new movement as well as having an awesome background!

How To Get More Twitter Followers

Twitter is slowly growing to be one of the most popular social networking sites. Attributing to it’s increasing popularity, more and more people have started using it. One common thing among all twitters is the craze to increase the number of followers of one’s own twitter profile. There are quite a few ways to do this effectively.

1. Building your profile
The first step to increase the number of followers is to create a really attractive profile that not just catches the attention of the viewer but also stirs him in a way to make him return back to your profile. Check out our designs to do this, as it really helps: a very good profile built means the job half-done.

2. Benefiting mutually
One good strategy to create more followers is to become a follower yourself. Active participation and expression of interest in other attractive profiles naturally draws attention to your own profile. Active participation, here, means interaction with others and showing real good participation in others’ profiles by using the tools available such as commenting and creating tweets and engaging in lengthy conversations.
While tweeting, a few points have to be kept in mind. Tweeting must be done often as a continuous work. Irregular tweeting may risk other member getting irritated and this may often result in losing them as followers. Use reasonable and useful subjects while tweeting. Using fun as a subject may not last long whereas a specific subject pertained to a single matter or issue can make the visitors follow your profile. This is much similar to maintaining a subject specific blog.
Tweet when others tweet. It is possible to engage in conversations only when others are available and ready to tweet. Hence, it is always advisable to tweet during the right times of the day. This has an added advantage because there is a higher possibility of random visitors to stumble upon your profile and continue to follow it.

3. Adding leverages and external links
Adding your twitter link onto other popular social networking sites and public forums where there is higher traffic implies a higher probability creation of followers. The reason being the high possibility of incoming traffic to your twitter profiles when the link is added on to your signature or in your blog. Retweeting can also be achieved by adding your blog links on your twitter profile. This, in a way, multiplies the number of profile visitors and brings in more traffic.

These strategies are the most common of all strategies to increase the number of followers of your twitter profile.

Good luck!

How Do You Set Backgrounds On Twitter?

If you like our themes, no doubt you’ll want to add them to your Twitter page. This is made surprisingly easy by Twitter, but we’ll do a quick post to show you how anyway.

Firstly, download the image you want from our website. We provide a download link which you should right click and ‘Save As’ (or whatever your browser says). Save this to your documents, and then go into Twitter.

Once you’ve logged in to your Twitter account, you’ll need to actually set up the background on your theme. Doing this is incredibly easy, just go to the ‘Settings’ page in the top navigation bar, and once you’re in there click on the ‘Design’ tab.

When you’ve done this, you’ll see a few designs (the default themes - yuck!), and then underneath that you’ll see a tab that says ‘Change Background Image’. Click that and upload the file you downloaded from us. The majority of our themes require you don’t tile it, so make sure you haven’t set it to do this. Then click save changes, and you’re away!

Good luck!

What’s Twitter?

Twitter is a website which allows users to post updates on their site, much like a blog. The difference from Twitter and blogs, however, is that Twitter only allows you to post short messages (140 characters to be precise). It allows you to keep in touch easily with family and friends, or to get your message across. Because of this, Twitter has become an extremely popular tool with webmasters to advertise their website.

Obviously, the most important part of Twitter is getting people to view the messages you say, whether you’re just telling your mum what you did at the weekend or promoting your new site, if no one sees the comments, whats the point?!

The easiest way to get people to view your comments is to get followers. This is extremely similar to the RSS feeds you see in blogs, basically sending your latest message straight to your followers so that they can keep up with your posts. A great way of getting followers is to follow other people and hope they follow you in return, although this doesn’t always work and takes a fair amount of time!
